Blue Rose

Posted by in on 30-11-12

Emerging from a nest of green
A delicate bud unfurls
Silky petals, rare and divine
As cultured ebony pearls

Cobalt symbol of promise and life
Adorned with beads of morning dew
Gleaming in the light of day
Cups of tiny tiered arches of blue

Soft as velvet, protected by thorns
Like flowing water, she sways in the breeze
Ruffled and caressed by sweet scented air
Invoking beautiful hopes and dreams

Solitary jewel in a bed of yellows and pinks
Beacon of mystery and delight
Viewed with awe and wonder by all
Bathed in a ray of ethereal light

About the Contributor:

Alison is a mother of four who formerly worked at Berrinba East State School as an English and Maths tutor. After suffering a long term illness she decided to turn her efforts towards the writing career she'd have always dreamed of. Since 2006 Alison has won seven awards for her short stories and two for her poetry. In July of 2007, Alison released a self published ebook of poetry titled "Touching Blue", and in September, Infinitas bookshop published the first short story that she submitted for publication. It was a small, humorous sci-fi piece titled "Live From Phobos". Her short story "Jongari", based on the old Murri legend of the Yowie has also been accepted in a new, yet to be named, cross genre anthology. Alison's poetry was also featured in the 2011 anthology of short stories and poetry, "Speaking of Love", published by Bright Light Multimedia.
