What Love Sees
There are instances of half-sleep,
whispers that bite in the last word
before trailing off into a sound of
peace; mourning for those few
moments that slip into your heart
with the reality of tenderness.
I long for the stirrings of indication,
the ones that make clear water
glisten with traces of silver in an
endless shout of bellowing and anguish;
not a curse, nor of words used and spoken,
but of actions selected and brought back
from a distance, the day after tomorrow.
It’s that gentle breeze that carries ivory
petals along side riverbanks, over humped
bridges and iron railings, so light, so gentle,
it tingles fine flesh with both passion
and prudence, acknowledging body and soul.
I take in the waves of your touch, your voice,
cradling your face against my own cheek,
while you position your shoulders, resting your
weight against mine in that certain angle of
discovery, undisturbed and settled. In that mood
of stillness, I see the repeated shapes of you
and I in a moment’s reflection of curiosity,
when I dared to look at us out of the corner
of my own eye. Slowly I’ve come to understand
how two people can love splendidly with pure
reverence and pleasure, wishing for eternity,
in the intensity of fleeting time.
